GENERAL AUDITION INFORMATION FOR THE TALENT MACHINE

The Talent Machine Company welcomes all interested young performers to audition for the show appropriate to their age and ability. We offer four annual productions: two shows in the summer, one at the holidays, and one in the spring for artists with disabilities in partnership with the nationally recognized organization, The Penguin Project.

In addition, we now offer fundraising Cabarets twice per year featuring performers from the area ages 18+ who still love the thrill of performing on stage.

Show and Audition Details:

Teen Summer Show: Auditions are in March for performances in July. The teen show is open to performers ages 14 to 18. Performances are held at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold. There are generally 8 to 10 shows per production.

The 2026 Teen Show was Curtains: School Edition — a musical comedy whodunit. The show earned rave reviews. Read More.

Youth Summer Show: Auditions are in April for performances in August. The youth show is open to performers ages 7 to 14. Performances are held at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold. There are generally 8 to 10 shows per production.

Holiday Show: Auditions are in September for performances in December. The holiday show is open to performers ages 7 to 18. There are generally 10 to 12 shows per production.

Penguin Project Show: Auditions are in January for performances in April. The Penguin Project show is open to performers with disabilities ages 7 to 21. Performers are paired with volunteer peer mentors during rehearsals and performances. The shows are held at the Mid-Atlantic Community Church in Davidsonville. There are generally 2 shows — one on a Friday night and one on a Saturday afternoon. Read more about this wonderful program on our Penguin Project page.

Location: Auditions are held at Stageworkz Theatre Arts Project, 1035 Benfield Road, Millersville, MD.

How to Prepare for an Audition

Once audition dates and times are announced on this site and on our social media pages, auditioners should register for an audition time slot. The form will be available on this page. You will also be asked to complete the audition form, provide a head shot or recent photo, and provide a complete list of any rehearsal/show conflicts during the applicable time frame.

Auditioners should come prepared to sing approximately 16 measures that show your vocal range. You should bring with you pre-recorded music on tape, CD or digital recording (iPhone, laptop, etc.), karaoke style (no words), cued to where you start to sing. We prefer that you not sing a cappella. Please wear attire appropriate for movement and dance. Dance shoes, character shoes and sneakers are acceptable. No open toe shoes, flip flops or bare feet are allowed.

The Talent Machine Time Commitment:

The Talent Machine offers cast members an amazing experience and a tremendous learning opportunity. Our shows are high quality and our directors, choreographers and music directors are always experienced professionals who enjoy sharing their love of musical theater with the cast, their families and the community. To produce these energy-filled, high-quality productions requires a significant commitment of time on the part of both cast members and their parents.

The Talent Machine Company is an all-volunteer organization, and we rely upon parents to provide the much-needed support to make each production a success. A parent of each cast member is required to attend two mandatory parent meetings. In addition, a parent is required to attend costume parades, to volunteer time on a committee, and ensure that their cast member arrives to rehearsal prepared.
