Many of our donors have given their contributions “In Honor Of” or “In Memory Of” very special people. We’d like to share some of their stories.
Meet Shane Coleman
Nearly 30 people and organizations donated to The Talent Machine Company last year in honor of Shane Coleman, a remarkable young man who has become an indispensable part of our family as a performer and production assistant. Shane was a performer in Legally Blonde and our first three Penguin Project shows – Annie Jr. and High School Musical Jr. and Willy Wonka Jr. He has been a production assistant for every youth, teen, and holiday show since 2022.
Shane’s aunt, Lisa Smith, shared the following insights: “Shane’s journey with Talent Machine has been so transformative that he has now completed his first year at Anne Arundel Community College and earned a place in the college’s dance company. None of this would have been possible without the foundation, encouragement and support The Talent Machine has provided.”
Donors to Talent Machine in Shane’s name help make it possible for the Company to fulfill its mission: To transform the lives of young people through musical theater, fostering a supportive and vibrant community that builds skill, confidence, empathy, teamwork, and leadership.
Saying Good-bye to Dear Friends
Gail Westover. The Talent Machine Company lost a very special member of our family in December 2025. Gail Westover was an extraordinary woman, attorney, wife, mother, daughter, aunt and friend – and she put her heart into her volunteer work with our Company. Despite battling a cancer diagnosis for the past two years, Gail produced shows with her incredible organizational skills, mentored cast members, and provided guidance and support wherever and whenever needed. Hundreds of people attended her beautiful memorial service, including many members of the Talent Machine board, current cast members and their families, and alumni.
The Keller-Westover family suggested that interested donors contribute to The Talent Machine in her memory, and we are deeply honored to be stewards of these funds as we keep the energy alive for the young people of our community.
Donna McCorkle. Born in Anne Arundel County, a graduate of Archbishop Spalding High School and a long-time dental hygienist in the area, Donna McCorkle was also an ever-present Talent Machine patron who loved watching her grandsons perform in our shows. She approached everything with passion, generosity and a huge heart, and according to her obituary, Donna was “one of a kind because she saw the ‘one-of-a-kind-ness’ that exists in all of us.” Her family also suggested that interested donors contribute to The Talent Machine, and we will honor her legacy of positivity as we move our Company forward.
